COURSE CBA101- PROFESSIONAL DOG & CAT GROOMING

Total Course Cost $4,950

This is a 16 week course (approximately 440 hours).  This course takes the student from ground zero to ready to begin work as a professional pet groomer.  It is open to both full and part-time students.  It is a comprehensive course including academic testing and hands-on practice.  The course consists of the following modules:

ORIENTATION - 2 hours

Explanation of the program, the Academy's policies, expectations of students, question and answer time, discussion of student's interests, goals and future plans.

INTRODUCTION TO PET CARE, ANIMAL HANDLING, GROOMING BASICS, BASIC FIRST AID AND AKC BREED RECOGNITION - 40 hours

Learn how to care for animals in you care, proper cleaning and disinfecting of cages, how to handle dogs and cats safely, basic grooming techniques including brush and bath, nail trimming, ear cleaning, undercoat removal techniques, and how to remove mats safely with a clipper.  Basic first aid will be taught to handle clipper nicks, minor cuts, clipper burns and nail bleeds.  Canine CPR.  Basic first aid for the Groomer if bitten or scratched.  Areas of a dog to be careful clipping and scissoring.

PROPER EQUIPMENT USE AND CARE - 8 hours

Learn about all the various tools and equipment available to groomer.  Learn to care for tools and equipment properly and keep it in good working order.

GROOMING THEORY - 40 hours

Advanced animal handling techniques for puppies, senior canines, cranky cats and dogs that bite.  How to recognize medical problems including: ear infections, parasites, skin problems, tumors & cysts, and oral issues.  When to call a veterinarian.  What shampoos to use for different skin problems.  Canine and feline anatomy.  Zoonotic diseases and how to keep yourself safe.  What is clipper burn and how to prevent it.  What is brush burn and how to avoid it.  Handling stress and keeping it under control at all times.  Customer relations: communicating with clients honestly and helping owners care for their pets.

LEARNING TO USE A CLIPPER AND SCISSORS - 30 hours

Learn the proper skills when using a clipper to get the best finished look for different breeds.  Students will learn the art of scissoring specific breeds to perfection.  Also learn how to use a thinning shears to create an optimum finished look.

AKC BREED CLIPS AND PATTERNS - 240 hours

Identify the most common dog breeds and how to groom them properly.

SHIH TZUS AND LHASA APSOS - 60 hours

TERRIERS - 60 hours

SPANIELS - 60 hours

POODLES AND BICHONS - 60 hours

GROOMING MIXED BREEDS AND DESIGNER DOGS - 40 hours

Learn to use your creativity and how to choose the best style for mixed breeds.

GROOMING CATS - 20 hours

BASIC SHOP OPERATIONS - 20 hours

BONUS FUN WORKSHOP - 10 hours

An optional bonus included in this course to teach making bows, bandanas, and holiday gifts for furry friends.


COURSE CBA201- GROOMING SHOP MANAGEMENT

Total Course Cost $2,150

This is a 7 week course (approximately 21 hours).  Most shop management courses are based on the school of hard knocks.  Ours is based on the experience of Masters degree holder in Business Administration, as actually applied to a grooming business with nearly 20 years of successful operation.   The course consists of the following modules:

THE BUSINESS OF BUSINESS - 3 hours

Making a profit is what it is all about.  Bring a specialized skill like professional pet grooming to your customers can do just that, if you have some business focus on your operation.

MARKETING - 6 hours

Getting appointments filled.  That is where the rubber meets the road.  This module will equip the student with the skills to get the phone to ring, the dogs to show up, and the owners to keep coming back.

 

TAXES AND BUSINESS FORMATION - 6 hours

Should you incorporate, hire groomers as employees or as independent contractors, sales tax, quarterly filing, insurance, state inspections, ...  Overwhelming?  Not after this module lays it all out for the student in an easy to follow format.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT - 3 hours

Leasing a space, equipping with tubs, tables & dryers, lease improvements, noise abatement to keep the neighbors happy.  The start-up is the toughest time, and with this module, you'll feel confident that you are making the right decisions for the business.

SHOP OPERATIONS - 3 hours

Managing groomers, customers and animals.
